Total Cholesterol, Glutamic-Pyruvic Transaminase and Glutamic-Oxala ciect Transaminase Levels in Sera and Cerebrospinal of Pediatric Patients

Abstract
Variations in levels of the total cholesterol, glutamic-pyruvic transaminase(GPT) and glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase(GOT) in the sera and cerebrospinal fluids (CSF) were investigated in pediatric diseases involving central nervous system. NOrmal values of 11 cases for the three entities were found to be almost similar to those reported by other authors. In tuberculous meningitis and poliomy clitis, marded increase in CSF Cholesterol and moderate increment in CSF GPT and GOT were noted. Among 9 cases of tuberculous meningitis with comatous state, 5 showed markedly increased levels of CSF cholesterol which lasted throughout until death and the othe 4 were recovered with concomitant decrease in CSF cholesterol.
